World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS Day and I just want to put out some links, some facts, etc. I want people to be aware, to be tested, to be safe!

AIDS has become a global pandemic, it affects different populations in different ways. It is NOT “The Gay Disease”. In fact, the CDC has shown that the virus first came from a subspecies of chimpanzees native to west equatorial Africa. They say it most likely jumped to humans after hunters (bad, bad) hunted chimps for meat (yuck) and came into contact with their diseased blood. The virus slowly spread across Africa, then to other parts of the world.

The earliest known case of HIV-1 in a human was from a blood sample collected in 1959 from a man in Kinshasa. Analysis of the blood sample said that HIV-1 may have come from a single virus in the late 40’s, early 50’s. Researchers know that the AIDS virus has existed in the USA since the mid to late 70’s. It wasn’t until 1982 that researchers actually started to use the term “acquired immunodeficiency syndrome,” or AIDS. In 1983, scientists discovered the virus that causes AIDS. The virus was at first named HTLV-III/LAV (human T-cell lymphotropic virus-type III/lymphadenopathy- associated virus) by an international scientific committee. This name was later changed to HIV.

How you can and cannot catch AIDS:

You CAN catch AIDS from:

  • Having sex with an infected person…anal, vaginal and oral.
  • Sharing needles (bad bad) with an infected person
  • Being a fetus exposed during childbirth.
  • Being an infant who breast feeds.
  • You can (but it is highly unlikely) get it through a blood transfusion. Testing of blood since 1985 has made almost impossible.

How you CANNOT catch AIDS:

  • Casual kissing, hugging, shaking hands, touching.
  • Eating after someone with AIDS.
  • Drinking after someone with AIDS.
  • Eating in a restaurant where a worker has AIDS
  • Toilet seats
  • Touching money
  • Mosquitoes
  • Touching a doorknob after an infected person (you are much more likely to get a cold or the flu you know)
  • Water fountains

See, there are more ways you cannot get it, than ways you can. It all comes down to being SAFE.

Here are some links for you to check out. Remember AIDS/HIV is NOT the “gay” disease. It affects men, women AND children.

Remember the only sure fire way to make sure you don’t get HIV/AIDS is abstinence, I know most of us don’t do that, so please…be safe.

Great blog of awareness, babe. Now… my two cents. For the readers of your blog.

Getting tested is good. If your test result come back positive, don’t freak out. And for the love of God don’t immediately run, tearing your hair out to the nearest doctor for meds. Listen, I am one of those anti-social, anti-drug people, so if this pisses the readers off, I can’t help that… I am not so sure that HIV meds do anything more than make people worse. Can you prove otherwise, people? Because I know plenty of people with HIV who don’t do a thing about it and they are living normal, healthy lives. The only thing they do is prevent it from getting to another person. That’s called having a conscience. HIV cocktails are not proven, and they can seriously impede upon a person’s natural balance and health. I’m sorry if I’m the only fucking person on earth who believes this way, but I will NEVER move off this platform. HIV meds are expensive and the mindset that the government WANTS HIV people to have is that they need to be dependant on these meds… Meds = money for big business.

If you have HIV… live your life. Believe in nature. Believe that there’s this possibility that you are not slated for a life of disastrous ill health… it’s not true. People nowadays live and live and live… could it be that a strain of HIV has come back that doesn’t necessarily KILL you? OMG! What a thought! Imagine that I am not just some crazed conspiracy theorist and that I might actually have a point? Wow…out of the box, thinking. Hunh. (that was my jesuit priest speaking. Hunh!)

So, yeah go get tested… but the best thing to do AFTER you find you’re positive is just don’t fuck someone without protection. Bam. You know the rules. But the rules don’t have to include the idea that death is a promise. I won’t accept this.

Drugs aren’t everything. Not in this battle. Use your god given MIND POWER. Make the best of your life, don’t give yourself over to medicine the second you feel fear. Listen to your heart.

There’s my two cents. condemn me if you will, I just don’t care. I’m on your side in spite of how you may not be. Yeah.

Thank you V, for letting me rant on your blog. I love you.
